Director, Lower School (The Academy)

The Academy is a K-12 social studies school built inside a museum: six mother courses, 540 lessons spanning 10,000 BCE to the present, 35 museum halls, and a teaching toolkit used by classroom and homeschool teachers. We are hiring its first Director.

You will

Own the K-12 academic program end to end. Shepherd the 540-lesson fabric through completion and revision. Set standards alignment (C3) and grade-band policy. Direct the teacher experience from lesson plan to gradebook. Recruit and support early adopter teachers. Work daily with the Institute Director so the curriculum ladder runs unbroken.

You bring

5+ years teaching social studies plus leadership experience. Fluency in standards-based instruction and assessment. Comfort in fast-moving digital products. A plain, warm writing voice. Homeschool-community experience a plus.

Compensation

Initial salary target set for this desk — shared in the first conversation

Total compensation is built in three parts: the base salary target; the ability to generate additional comp tied to what your desk grows (enrollment, membership, collection value — measured, not vague); and stock grants — equity in Urbanicity LLC (membership units) vesting with service, so the founding staff own part of what they build.
